The Beacon “Refugees”
Our friends from the Beacon will soon be moving back to the newly refurbished Centre. We will miss them about the place both in the church halls and in The Stables and wish them well as they take their leave of us.
Before leaving, each group left a message for all in Newhills.
Firstly from Kay on behalf of the various exercise classes:
“I find it hard to believe that a whole year has passed. I think that’s been down to the warm and friendly welcome that we received from everyone. People have been so kind and accommodating not just to myself and class members but all the equipment for the classes too, finding a home for all the steps, mats and a bike could not have been easy. I am very grateful to Mr Wallace and Janette for helping the move and the running of the classes go smoothly. Also, Mr Roy, Mike & John for always being there to open up for me—they were there come rain, shine or snow, even occasionally having to lend a hand to push cars and dig us out! Although we are looking forward to return to the Beacon and seeing the transformation, we will miss being at thetop of the hill!
Thank you so much for your hospitality. It was much appreciated.
Regards,
Kay Robb.”
Our thanks go to Kay’s classes too for the lovely planters they gave us before leaving. They are really brightening up the entrance at the hall door, bringing a lovely splash of colour.
The Dressmaking Class sent this message via Joan:
“The Dressmaking class from the Beacon Community Centre has been held at Newhills Church on Tuesday mornings while the Beacon has been closed for refurbishment. It is expected that we will return to the Beacon after the Easter break. I should like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Newhills Church for the kindness they have shown us – in particular the secretary, the ladies in the kitchen and the “invisible” gentlemen who set up the hall for us. If anyone in the congregation would like to join the class, where we do different kinds of needlecraft subjects, they will be very welcome and may contact me on 01224 313000 for more information.
Joan V. Atkinson.”
Again, Joan very kindly showed her appreciation by giving lovely pot plants to the folks she mentioned and we thank her for her kind thought.
Last, but by no means least, we have this message from the Lunch Club:
“On behalf of the Tuesday Lunch Club we thank you at Newhills Church for the warm welcome we received when you opened your door to us as the Beacon Centre had to close. It has meant a lot to us, as we are a small band of ten and enjoy meeting up for lunch, a chat and games. To Rev Hugh Wallace for his time in giving us a film on some of our Tuesdays, most enjoyable and thank you for your interest in us. We move soon to our “New Beacon Centre” but memories of our stay here will remain.
Netta Duncan.”
