24-7 Prayer
24-7 Prayer is an accidental prayer movement that began in September ’99. A bunch of young people who found prayer difficult set themselves the extreme challenge of praying non-stop for a month. God turned up and they didn’t stop until Christmas! People who wouldn’t walk into a church service came to experience God’s presence in the Prayer Room: some even gave their life to the Lord.
The idea of praying night and day spread into over 90 nations and nearly every stream of the Church. Thousands of 24-7 Prayer Rooms are now linked via the Internet to form a chain of prayer that’s growing year on year.
All it takes is 24 people to pray one hour a day to fill a week.
You can use the space and time to talk to God about anything you wish and try new ways of praying using the arts, music and activities.
Or you can sit in silence, and be aware of God’s loving Presence. You can listen to what God has to say to you.
Newhills is joining this worldwide movement with a week of 24hour a day prayer from 1pm on Sunday 6th June to 1pm Sunday 13th June 2010. We will be using a room specially set aside for prayer, in the church building. There will be music and books and images to help create a prayerful atmosphere, but the emphasis is on each individual coming and using the time in their own way. It is a time to draw close to God, the One who made us all and who loves us all more than we can imagine.
This would be one hour of your life which could make a huge difference, do come and pray!
The sign-up sheet is available outside the church office, or contact Elspeth MacLean on 01651 862042 or the church office on 01224 716161.
