Guild News – Spring
April sees the Annual General Meetings of our Guild here in Newhills – Evening A.G.M. on 8th April and Afternoon Guild on 28th April.
For some unknown reason, the term A.G.M. seems to convey the message to some the idea that this is a meeting it’s best to avoid. I do hope that will not be the case this year as we have two very good meetings organised for those dates.
On 8th April we will be having Janette Mackie speak to us about her “Russian Experience.” We did get a little taster of this one Sunday morning after she came home and so we are looking forward to more information and insights into the situation there.
The afternoon of 28th April promises to be a very lively event with Irene Pace leading us in “Songs of Praise.” We all appreciate Irene’s enthusiasm when she leads something like this and we know we will all feel better after such an afternoon. Irene is having to take a day’s annual leave to do this for us so do come along and show your appreciation.
We are very fortunate in the Guild to have members who can speak at several of our meetings. As I write this we are looking forward to hearing Elizabeth Park talk to us on 11th March about “The Lady Lawyer, justice and the hand of God” and at our last afternoon meeting we had Violet Leiper share her story “From Minor to Major.” Violet is an officer in the Salvation Army but she enjoys attending our evening meetings. Four of our own members willing to share their talents with us. Thank you Janette, Irene, Elizabeth and Vi.
Our next afternoon Guild meeting will be on 24th March when we hope to have Mr. Eric Jensen show us slide photographs of the changing seasons in Deeside. Hopefully this will inspire us to look forward to summer.
The 13th May will see the Guild members and some of their partners and friends heading off to the Cloverleaf Hotel. We always are very well catered for there by Jim Bell and his staff. After the meal we will all be able to sit back and enjoy a musical programme provided by Jim and Marisha Addison. They are well known to many of us and so we know we are guaranteed a great evening.
The new session of the Guild will start again in September and I would really urge you ALL to consider coming along. Remember it is open to men and women.
I have completed my three year stint as convenor and so I would like to thank all the committee and Guild members for their friendship and support. It’s been a very enjoyable and learning experience. I look forward to sitting back and just enjoying the sense of fellowship and friendship which is an important part of each meeting alongside the worship of God and the increasing of our knowledge of a wide range of subjects and activities.
