Men of All Ages – Spring
In August this year we, as a Christian men’s fellowship, will celebrate ten years as an organisation within Newhills Church. Never taking the Lord’s work for granted we are at present in the process of examining the fundamental principles of Men of All Ages. A questionnaire to help us do this has been circulated among the men of the church and I am sure, following a review of the responses given, decisions will be made that will move us on to the next phase.
In the meantime, as we draw towards the end of this session we seem to be as busy and in good heart as always. The annual ‘social’ organised by the men took the form of a Stovie Supper evening. The Stovies were made ‘in house’ and were enjoyed by all (even Maurice who made them). Charlie acted as compère for the evening and what a good job he made of it, preceding each part of the programme with a host of funny stories. A big thank you to the ladies who paid a wonderful tribute to the men through song. I have to confess our sung response to them was less a tribute as an opportunity to ‘have a go’ at them! I can see we will have a bit of humble pie to eat for some time. Jim and Marisha Addison added the ‘professional’ touch to the evening providing the music for dancing, singing and comedy in the form of ‘Scotland the What’ type of songs. One highlight was when Marisha finished singing about the celebrated Ashvale and was presented with a white pudding supper by Maurice. As Marisha said, that had never happened before!
By the time the Magazine reaches you we will have had a ‘Songs of Praise’ evening in Newmachar Church in aid of the Breakfast Rally which this year will once again be held in Thainstone Conference Centre. The date is Saturday 24th September and we are really pleased Kenny Borthwick has accepted our invitation to be our Speaker, and we hope to have the Aberdeen University Christian Union Praise Band lead us in praise on the morning. So men – of all ages – get the date into your diaries now as it promises to be a great event.
