Trident – Petition
The Church of Scotland 2009 General Assembly declared
“We believe that nuclear weapons are inherently evil.”
The Church of Scotland say nuclear weapons kill indiscriminately. We can’t afford them and 70%of Scots don’t want them. Why vote for them?
The Church believes that nuclear weapons have no place in a modern world, They do not prevent war. They cost enormous sums of money that could be better spent on allowing alleviating poverty and creating jobs. The Churchencourages you to ask your prospective candidate in the forthcoming election whether they would vote for or against the replacement of Trident, which will cost in excess of £78 million. Along with other denominations and organisations, the Church have launched a Postcard Petition which asks candidates this question. Consider sending one to each candidate for your constituency.
Post cards are available at our church entrances.
