befriending

The new Befriending Service is up and running and people in the area are already benefitting from it. With anything new it is always hard to get across what happens and how people can be involved.

We are very aware that there are a high number of elderly people in the Bucksburn and Newhills area, many of whom live alone and have very little contact with others. There is also a push these days to support people to stay independent and remain their own homes.

The Befriending Service can play its part in this by providing a trained befriender to visit regularly or assist a person to get out and about if this is something they cannot manage on their own. Those who are already enjoying visits say they look forward to them and for one, it is “the highlight of her week”.

We welcome referrals for anyone aged 60 or over, living in the Bucksburn/Newhills area and who is lonely or isolated. Please contact me for more details or a referral form. Referrals can be made by anyone, health/social workers or family members/friends.
