Guild News - Autumn 2011

As I write this autumn is fast approaching and we are still waiting for the promised barbecue summer. We have managed some nice days out, had lots of visitors and the garden has certainly flourished with all the rain.

Our new session has now begun and the first meeting of the Evening Guild was held on Thursday 8th September at 7.30pm when Mr Graham Gibb spoke to us about his work on ‘Missing People Profiles.’ We were treated to a fascinating insight into the work of tracing missing persons and the way modern technology enables Graham’s expertise to be utilised by police forces throughout the country.

The first meeting of the Afternoon Guild was on Wednesday 28th September at 1.30pm when our speaker Mr Mike Sandison of the Fishermen’s Mission gave us an insight into the history and current work of this very worthwhile service to fishermen and their families. It was good to welcome members old and new, and we look forward to welcoming ladies and gentlemen, young, middle-aged and old, throughout the session to share our varied and interesting syllabus. A special mention should be made of our Open Night on Thursday 10th November when we will be entertained by the Serendipity Theatre Group. Watch out for more information about this special event.

Those of you who are familiar with Fair Isle knitting and Persian carpets, will know that tradition has it that you should always make at least one mistake as this will bring you good luck. Perhaps with this in mind, in my last report I somehow managed to omit thanking our retiring Treasurer, Jean Charles, for all her work on behalf of the Guild. My belated but heartfelt thanks to Jean.

God Bless,

Elizabeth Park
