Messy Church

…. came to Newhills Church – Thursday 6th October

Messy Church is intended to be church for families who might want to meet Jesus, belong to their local church and bring up their children as Christians but are unable or unwilling to commit to traditional Sunday morning church services.

The concept originated in Portsmouth in 2004 in a church who wanted to use their buildings and congregational talents & resources to better engage with the children & families living in the parish.

Sound familiar – well it should. Here in Newhills we have great facilities and talented members, yet we also are struggling to maintain, let alone increase the numbers of children who come to learn about God and start on their walk of Faith. Consequently the Children’s Team are embarking on a quest to bring Messy Church to Newhills, but we need your help.

Messy Church is for all ages, children come with a parent, grandparent or childminder. The core values are hospitality, creativity & celebration. It happens during the week, after school and involves a time of welcome & fellowship, creativity – the messy part, worship and finally a meal together. Working parents are encouraged to join their families for the meal.

A meeting held in early August showed much enthusiasm for this venture, but we need more helpers so whether your talent is in crafts, cooking, furniture rearranging, singing, or making people feel welcome, we’d love to have you on the team.
