On Sunday 17 November we welcomed Jonathan Clipston (Jonny) as he led our service as Sole Nominee for our vacant charge, He was accompanied by his wife, ML (Mary-Louise). His sermon can be found here.
Following the service, the congregation voted unanimously in favour of Jonny becoming our new minister. When the result was announced to the Kirk Session and then to the congregation, there were spontaneous ‘whoops’ of delight and applause. We are so grateful that such a clear decision was made and we know that both Jonny and ML also appreciated this. We thank God for making things easy for us all!
Jonny is now the Minister-Elect for Newhills Parish Church.
From now until Friday 29 November, the congregation has the opportunity to sign the Call for Jonny to be our minister, indicating our support for him going forward. The Call will be available each day between 12pm to 1pm and 6pm to 7pm. It can be signed by those on our Electoral Register whether they voted on Sunday or not. There is also a ‘Paper of Concurrence’ that can be signed by non-members and children, where they, too, can show their support for the congregation’s decision.
There are still decisions to be made elsewhere regarding his ordination and induction and dates will be posted once we know them.
We thank God for the clarity of the whole process leading up to and including last Sunday and ask our members, neighbouring churches and those further afield to continue to support Jonny, ML, and our church in prayer. As Jonny said on Sunday, we will move forward in grace and unity in this new season, and our mission continues to be to tell others of God’s saving love.
God is at work!
